Celebrex Colon Cancer: A Drug to prevent Colon Cancer

The new century has started with some exciting new developments in the field of medicinal treatment. The discovery of a drug named Celebrex, discovered in Washington, which cures the problem of colon cancer, has further revolutionized this field. The researchers soon revealed that the relief by using Celebrex in Colon Cancer with its treatment is short lived as it may involve heart problems. However, the drug Celebrex was approved by the U.S. government in January. As of now, Drug Celebrex is being used to prevent the stage of cancer for a unique type of inherited colon cancer.

Celebrex works in association with Cox-2 enzyme that performs an important role in aggravating the problem of arthritis, the growth of cancer and at initial stages of cancer. Considering the potential drawbacks and the increase in the growth of heart attacks and strokes, the Bextra and Vioxx were ceased and removed from the market, while Cox- 2 still exists.

A study was conducted wherein about 2035 people, whose polyps were removed, were given 200-400 milligrams of Placebo, or Celebrex twice a day. It was decided that to overcome the problem of severe menstrual pain, painful conditions and especially to treat arthritis, heavy doses of Celebrex should be given. After one year through the colonoscopy exam it was real shocking to find that new polyps were developed by those who took 61% of Placebo in comparison to those who took 34% of the Celebrex, particularly those 41% who took a little dose of the drug.

A small but an important finding was made; those who had Celebrex turned out to have 3.4 % of heart attacks in comparison to the 2.5 %, who were administered placebo.

In one more study it was found that about 1561 people were given either of the 400 grams of Celebrex once in a day, or Placebo, had their polyps removed. After three years, it was noticed that although 49% of the growth was observed in Placebo and 34% of the growth observed in Celebrex, but 7.5% of the cardiovascular effects were due to Celebrex and 4.6% due to Placebo.

A study further showed that those who took 400 milligrams of Celebrex survived with more than 2.5 times with the heart related problems in comparison to those who did not take the drug and those who took 800 milligrams of Celebrex survived with more than 3.4 times with health disorders. After a long span of 2 years it was concluded that the danger of the colon cancer can be reduced with the help of Celebrex, which is also an arthritis drug. Moreover, an observation conducted in the clinic showed that 45% of the reduction w in the growth of colon tumors when the drug Celebrex was used with the capsule of a sugar.
